IV.2 · The course

PADI Advanced Open Water is the certification that takes you from eighteen-metre recreational diving to thirty-metre access — which is where most of the interesting wrecks, walls, and pinnacles in this region actually live. The course is five adventure dives: two mandatory (Deep and Underwater Navigation) and three electives.

We schedule it as a four-day programme on Tioman, paced so you do one adventure dive per session with a debrief in between. Most students choose Night, Wreck, and either Drift or Underwater Photography for their three electives.

There is no theory exam. The course is dive-led — you read the corresponding chapter the night before each adventure, and the in-water skill is what gets you the certification.
